#14,757

Overnight both Japan and the United States evacuated citizens from Wuhan City, China - the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak - by chartered aircraft. The U.S. flight, carrying about 240 Americans, has landed in Anchorage (see CNN US State Department charter flight departs China amid coronavirus outbreak) before continuing on to a military base in California.
Japan's Charter flight has arrived home, and the Ministry of Health reports four of 206 passengers are showing respiratory symptoms consistent with coronavirus infection.  These passengers were segregated during the flight, and testing is underway.
Kyodo News is reporting that 2 of Japanese evacuees from China's Wuhan develop pneumonia, but test results for the coronavirus are still pending.  For now, we  have this status report from the MOH.

Status of Japanese Returnees on Charter Flights Related to the New Coronavirus

Today, 206 Japanese returned to Japan on a charter flight from Wuhan City, which arrived around 8:40 a.m., and four of them had fever and other symptoms as a result of medical inquiries and examinations through in-flight quarantine. For those who had symptoms, measures were taken to prevent infection from the surrounding area on board and were taken to a medical institution after arriving in Japan. In addition, one person was taken to a medical institution after disembarking because of symptoms of nausea while waiting at the airport.
Of the 201 people other than the five who were transported to medical institutions, 199 people with consent (for two who did not agree, quarantine officers have sent them to their homes to follow up on their health conditions.) The National Center for International Medical Research (NCGM) conducted another medical examination, examination, and examination, and 191 people were confirmed again as without any special symptoms. For these people, we ask them to refrain from going out for at least two weeks and will follow up on their health conditions on a regular basis.
Eight people have symptoms such as fever, cough, nasal discharge, headache, etc., and seven people, excluding one person with headaches, are scheduled to be hospitalized.
Regardless of whether or not you have any symptoms, 199 people have been tested for the new coronavirus, and we will announce the results again.

Japan's MOH also announced a 7th confirmed case today.  All but one of Japan's cases have been travel-related.
