Iraq Confirms 4 More COVID-19 Cases (ex Iran)

#14,949

Five days ago Iraq Closed Their Border With Iran Over COVID-19 Concerns, but apparently a little too late.  Yesterday Iraq reported their  1st Imported COVID-19 Case (ex Iran) and today their  MOH reports 4 more cases among a family who recently returned from Iran.
The Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment confirms the diagnosis of 4 new cases of the new Corona virus in the Kirkuk governorate of an Iraqi family who was on a visit to Iran and returned to the country.
The ministry explained in its statement that the quarantine was applied to the family and the medical examination by the competent medical and health staff and the results of the analysis showed that the family had contracted the new Corona virus.
All measures were taken in accordance with the International Health Regulations to deal with the situation and the touchers, hoping to cooperate with the implementation of the procedures and publish messages of health education and awareness.

While border closings are a temporary, and imperfect, stopgap measure - they can help slow the entry of the virus into an unaffected country.  No country - except a self-sufficient island, perhaps - can hope to keep the virus out over the long run.
