In the past 24 hours Iran has reported 1234 new COVID-19 cases, an increase of nearly 50% over yesterday's total (n=3513). This brings their confirmed total to 4,747 cases and 124 deaths.
But that is only part of the story. Iran also reports nearly 16,000 suspected cases are hospitalized. How many more, who are only mildly or moderately ill, and are treating themselves at home is unknowable.But based on the oft-quoted assumption that fewer than 20% of COVID-19 cases get sick enough to require hospitalization, one could infer there are likely a 100,000 cases in Iran. But even that number may be low.
Of note, while the epicenter early on in their outbreak was Qom, Tehran now has the largest number of cases by a large margin.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health announced:
Identification of 1234 new patients with kvidid 19 in Iran
Dr. Jahanpour, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, said yesterday to today, 1234 new patients with a 19-week-in-country were identified and the total number of these patients in the country reached 4747.
According to the WEBDA, Dr. Kianoosh Jahanpour, along with the announcement of this report, unfortunately, in the last 24 hours, 17 patients were killed and the total of victims died from the disease to 124.
He said that the number of survivors in the country has reached more than 913 people and during this period, more than 15,998 suspicious cases have been admitted to hospitals.
