Japan MOH: 54 New Domestic COVID-19 Cases - 3 Additional Deaths

While Japan hasn't reported the kind COVID-19 numbers that we've seen in South Korea, Italy, Iran, and a growing host of European nations - over the past week we've seen a noticeable spike in cases - with 284 new cases reported over the past 7 days. This represents a 60% jump in total cases in just one week. 
Over the same time period 5 patients have died, bringing Japan's total to 12 (an apparent CFR of 2.1% including asymptomatic positives). 
Some excerpts from today's report follows:

About outbreak of patients related to new type coronavirus (458-503 cases)
Today (March 10), the new coronavirus from Osaka, Saitama, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie, Hyogo, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Nara and Hokkaido Forty-six patients with associated infections, eight asymptomatic pathogen carriers, and three deaths were reported as follows:
With this announcement, there will be 567 domestic infections (503 patients, 64 asymptomatic pathogen carriers). In addition, one patient has been confirmed in airport quarantine so far, bringing the total to 568. In addition, there are 12 domestic deaths.
We will carry out proactive epidemiological investigations on this matter, including the identification of close contacts.

  • Kyoto Prefecture: one patient
  • Nara Prefecture: 1 example asymptomatic pathogen holders
