Yesterday, in It Happens Every Spring (2021 Edition)we looked at NOAA/NWS Storm Prediction Center forecast for a moderate risk of severe weather this week, and an overview of storm safety and preparedness.

Overnight NOAA has elevated today's warning to a High Risk across a small region of the deep south - primarily in central Mississippi - and a moderate risk across portions of 4 states.

 From today's forecast.

A Major Severe Weather Outbreak is Forecast Today and/or Tonight

A regional outbreak of severe storms is expected today and tonight across portions of the lower Mississippi Valley into Alabama. Widespread severe storms capable of producing tornadoes (several of which may be intense), very large hail and intense damaging wind gusts are expected.

More than one round of severe storms are possible across parts of Mississippi into Alabama during the afternoon into the overnight hours.
  • For additional details, see the current Public Severe Weather Outlook (PWO). A widespread/substantial severe weather event is expected to continue into Thursday from southern Virginia southward into Florida, and westward into portions of eastern Kentucky/eastern Tennessee. Along with potential for widespread damaging winds and hail, several tornadoes -- a few of them likely to be strong -- are anticipated.
  • For additional details, see the latest Day 2 Convective Outlook.

If you live or work in the affected areas, now would be a good time to review your emergency plans, and to make sure your NOAA weather radio is working and on.
