The New Zealand Quake

# 4867

Reports on the  7.4 Magnitude quake in Christchurch, New Zealand are still chaotic, and aftershocks continue, so the situation there is fluid.

The damage in the central city is described as `considerable’.

FluTrackers has several members who reside in the quake zone, and thankfully, we’ve received word that they and their families are okay.

The power and water is out in much of the region, as well as some communications.

You can follow reports on this FluTrackers thread  and you can listen to live Radio New Zealand broadcasts via the internet at this link. (h/t Mixin)

This would be a good time to remind my readers about   The L. A. County Emergency Survival Guide.

The guide may be downloaded here (6.5 Mbyte PDF).

While designed specifically for the nearly 10 million residents of Los Angeles County, this guide would be a valuable asset for anyone interested in preparing for a variety of hazards.

It, as you might imagine, has a good deal regarding earthquake hazards.
