Often a bit technical, and primarily of interest to clinicians – physicians, nurses, physician’s assistants, pharmacists, veterinarians, epidemiologists, public health practitioners, and state and local health department officials - the CDC holds frequent COCA (Clinician Outreach Communication Activity) calls which are designed to ensure that clinicians have up-to-date information for their practices.
Last week, I wrote on a last Thursday’s COCA Call on H7N9 in my blog CDC Interim H7N9 Infection Control Guidelines, and Scott McPherson featured it in his blog CDC begins actively looking for H7N9 in the United States.
Since then, I’ve received several requests from readers wanting to know when the audio and transcripts would be made available.
I’m happy to report they went live on the CDC site this afternoon.
The transcript runs 30 pages, and the MP3 audio runs 68 minutes, both of which are available at the link below.
CDC Update for Clinicians on Avian Influenza A (H7N9) Virus
= No Continuing Education
Date: Thursday, April 18, 2013
Moderator: Loretta Jackson Brown
Presenters: Alicia M. Fry, MD, MPH and David Kuhar, MD
Date/Time: April 18, 2013 2:00 pm ET
Overview:
The World Health Organization and CDC China, along with U.S. CDC are working together to investigate the avian influenza A (H7N9) virus cases detected in China. At this time, no cases of human infection with avian influenza A (H7N9) viruses have been detected in the United States. Rapid detection and characterization of novel influenza viruses remain a critical component of national efforts to prevent further cases, evaluate clinical illness associated with them, and assess any ability for these viruses to spread among humans. During this COCA Conference Call, a CDC subject matter expert will provide an update on the current H7N9 situation in China, review interim avian influenza A (H7N9) recommendations for clinicians and state and local health departments related to case investigation, testing, infection control, and treatment, and discuss what CDC is doing to closely monitor the situation.
