Beijing CDC - Now Reporting 10 H7N9 Cases In 5th Epidemic Wave

#12,291

Even though Hong Kong's CHP reported Beijing with only 6 H7N9 cases a couple of hours ago (see HK CHP Avian Flu Report Week 15), we have a weekly epidemiological report from Beijing's CDC showing a total of 10 cases this winter.
This more than doubles the total number of cases reported by Beijing (n=9) during the first 4 waves.
As we've discussed often, the flow of information from individual provinces to their NHFPC - and from there to Hong Kong's CHP, the WHO, and other outside agencies - often involves considerable delays.
Yesterday's report from Beijing (see Beijing CDC Statement On Recent Locally Acquired H7N9 Infections) had their total at 7 cases (3 local, 4 imported). So there are three cases (1 local, 2 imported) for which we've seen no information.
A reminder that an absence of reports doesn't necessarily equate an absence of cases.

 I. Overview of the epidemic

B increased incidence of infectious diseases over the previous week 51.72%, 91.13% which increased tuberculosis. Class C decreased 3.33% incidence of infectious diseases over the previous week, wherein the influenza drop 34.48%, 111.54% increase in foot and mouth disease. Five categories of diseases before the reported cases were: other infectious diarrhea, tuberculosis, influenza, diarrhea and hand-foot-mouth disease, which together account for 76.24% of the number of legal infectious diseases reported incidence. Compared with the previous week, rose 15.02 percent incidence of infectious diseases.

        Major Epidemics

Since the beginning of April, the city reported more than H7N9 outbreak. As of April 16, 2017, the city this year, a total of nine reports of H7N9 bird flu outbreak, involving 10 cases. 4 cases of local patients, 6 cases of patients for treatment field to Beijing.

H7N9 bird flu cases occurred in Beijing, have a history of exposure to live poultry, the survey found that the source of infection in these cases are from foreign itinerant traders buy live poultry or reared, these all point to the ultimate source of live poultry itinerant traders in Hebei Province. In view of this situation, the future of the city as well as the risk of local sporadic cases may occur, coupled with the large number of cases the city field to Beijing for treatment, and therefore imported cases occur is still high.

Prevention of H7N9, the most important thing is to reduce exposure, good personal protection, to develop good health habits. In this remind you:

        1, to avoid contact with poultry;
        2, buy chilled poultry meat from the formal channels, to be eaten when fully cooked poultry eggs, and pay attention to separate raw and cooked;
        3, try to avoid contact with sick or dead poultry, in Note farmhouse when playing away from poultry slaughtering site;
        4, in particular, to avoid going to the market and liquidity traders buying live birds at live animal;
        5, wash your hands, pay attention to personal hygiene; reasonable diet, to ensure adequate nutrition and sleep; pay attention to timely change clothes.
