Chan: H1N1 Virus Has Not Gone Away

A new call this  morning from the World Health Organization’s Director-General Margaret Chan to remain vigilant over the H1N1 virus.

As I blogged earlier today, some regions of the world continue to be `hot spots’ of H1N1 activity.  The VOA News article below quotes Chan as saying:

"In the current post-pandemic period we expect to see localized outbreaks of different magnitude and some continuing 'hot spots' would experience high levels of H1N1 infections. This pattern is indeed being seen in a few parts of the world including Southeast Asia. Let me remind you the pandemic virus has not gone away."

In this article, Ms. Chan is quoted as stating that the H1N1 virus `has weakened’, but I have to assume she means in terms of numbers infected and societal impact . . .  not in terms of virulence.
