The Opposite Of Worry

One doesn’t have to scan too many newspaper headlines, or visit too many websites these days, without concluding that deep-rooted feelings of uncertainty and fear permeate our modern society.

Worries over a prolonged economic crisis, tensions in the Middle-East, H5N1 research, natural disasters, and even farfetched Mayan doomsday prophesies seem to abound in the media each day.

If you are feeling a bit inundated by these non-stop scare stories, you are not alone. Every morning I scan hundreds of news items, looking for something worthy of blogging on, and in so doing I’m exposed to scores of these stories every day.

While it is pretty easy to discount the more fanciful of these stories, the truth is, every year millions of people are caught up in disasters and emergencies all around the globe.

It doesn’t take a Mayan prophesy fulfilled to ruin your entire day.

Tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and all manner of natural and manmade disasters can strike practically anywhere or at any time - and while worrying about them is counter productive – preparing for them makes a great deal of sense.

FEMA, along with Ready.gov, and a variety of other agencies and organizations, promote personal, family, and community preparedness for all types of emergencies.

They know that it isn’t if another disaster will strike, it is only a matter of when and where.

Accordingly, Ready.gov has a new video Preparing Makes Sense, which you can view on the FEMA Youtube Channel

In a little over 4 minutes, you’ll get an excellent short course on how to prepare for a disaster.

As I wrote during National Preparedness Month in PM11: Living The Prepared Life, being prepared for emergencies both large and small has paid off often in my life.

To learn how to prepare as an individual, family, business owner, or community I would invite you to visit the following sites and use THIS LINK to access some of my preparedness blogs.

While hyperbolic headlines and `worst-case scenarios’ being promoted by the media may keep many people up at night, I discovered long ago the secret to sleeping soundly is that preparing is easy.

It’s worrying that’s hard
