Five days ago (see ASF Reaches Hunan Province (Yiyang City & Changde City)), we saw African Swine Fever reach Hunan - one of the top 5 pork producing provinces of China (cite) - and one of 3 southern provinces hit this week (includes Guizhou and Yunnan).
According to the OIE report, released on Oct 23rd, Hunan's first outbreak (in Changde) appears to have started September 28th, and the second (in Yiyang) began on Oct 3rd, but they were only confirmed and reported 3 weeks later.Today China's MOA is reporting another ASF outbreak in Changde City, this time affecting a large farm with more than 7,600 pigs. The date of onset is not provided, only the date the MOA was notified of a positive test (Oct 27th).

The Information Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was released on October 28, and the disease of African swine fever was detected in Taoyuan County, Changde City, Hunan Province.
At 21:00 on October 27, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received a report from the China Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center. The samples submitted by the Hunan Provincial Center for Animal Disease Control and Prevention were diagnosed as African by the China Center for Animal Health and Epidemiology (National Institute of Animal Diseases and Diseases). Swine fever.
The positive samples were from a farm in Taoyuan County, Changde City, Hunan Province. The farm had 7,684 live pigs, 106 diseases, and 99 deaths.
Immediately after the outbreak, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs sent a steering group to the local area. The local government has started the emergency response mechanism as required, and adopted measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment, disinfection, etc., to treat all the sick and culled pigs harmlessly. At the same time, all pigs and their products are prohibited from being transferred out of the blockade, and pigs are prohibited from being transported into the blockade. At present, the above epidemic has been effectively disposed of.
Although many regions of China have yet to report ASF, if the delay of nearly a month in identifying and reporting Hunan's first outbreak is any indication, there are likely a lot more outbreaks in the queue.
