NHC: Tropical Storm Watches (Florida) & Warnings (Bahamas)

#14,303

Ten days after a CAT 5 hurricane battered the Bahamas we've got another tropical system retracing Dorian's path, albeit at a fraction of its strength. While only expected to reach tropical storm strength, this system could still hamper recovery efforts on Great Abaco.
Still just a depression, the National Hurricane Center expects this system to become a tropical storm over the next 24-48 hours.
Key Messages this morning from the National Hurricane Center include:

We just passed the `peak' of the Atlantic Hurricane season, but we've still got 6 `prime' weeks of activity ahead, and the season doesn't end until Nov 30th. And as we saw last year with Hurricane Michael and 2005's Hurricane Wilma - both Category 5 storms - bad things can still happen well into October.

If you live anywhere where in `hurricane country' and haven't done so already,  now is a good time to visit NOAA's Weather-Ready Nation  2019's Hurricane Preparedness week web page, and decide what you need to do now to keep you, your family, and your property safe during the coming tropical season.

Your primary source of forecast information should always be the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida.
These are the real experts, and the only ones you should rely on to track and forecast the storm.
If you are on Twitter, you should also follow @FEMA, @NHC_Atlantic, @NHC_Pacific and @ReadyGov and of course take direction from your local Emergency Management Office.
