Italy MOH Adds 1797 New COVID 19 Cases - 97 Additional Fatalities

#15,067

Italy announces another major jump in their case count, adding 1797 newly confirmed cases over the past 24 hours, and 97 additional deaths.  Italy continues to lead the world - at least outside of Mainland China - with the most cases (n=9172) and the most deaths (n=463).
Their apparent CFR continues to run substantially higher than any other country - roughly 5% - but exactly what is behind this elevated number of deaths isn't clear.
Yesterday we looked at the Exceptional Measures in Lombardy and 14 provinces ordered by the Italian government in hopes of slowing their epidemic. The latest update from the MOH follows:

Covid-19: the cases in Italy at 6 pm on March 9th

As part of the health monitoring relating to the spread of the new Coronavirus on the national territory, there are 9172 total cases, at the moment 7985 people are positive for the virus.

724 people have been healed.

There are 4316 patients hospitalized with symptoms, 733 in intensive care, while 2936 are in home isolation.

463 have died, however this number can be confirmed only after the Istituto Superiore di Sanità has established the actual cause of the death.

The Head of Civil Protection and Emergency Commissioner, Angelo Borrelli, also announced that the delivery of 325 fans for intensive and sub-intensive care has started, as of this evening distribution begins with Lombardy; he also recalled that the distribution of face masks and personal protective equipment continues. In particular, about 100 thousand masks will be distributed in penitentiary institutions tomorrow.
