Fujian province ended the second wave of H7N9 with just 22 reported cases, and until the January 7th announcement (see Fujian Province Reports 6 H7N9 Cases In December) had remained quiet throughout the fall. We saw Hong Kong’s CHP update their count for Fujian to 28 a week later.
Unfortunately, the absence of onset dates, ages and genders in these reports makes keeping a decent line-listing, and good track of the totals, almost impossible.
So today, when we get a report from the Fujian Provincial Health Department like the one below, we can’t double check these cases, and we are forced to the update at face value. Since they already reported 6 cases in December, presumably all of these cases occurred since the first of the year.

As of January 15 24, were reported across the province this year, 15 cases of human infection with the H7N9 cases. Among them, five cases of Fuzhou, Xiamen, six cases, two cases of Putian, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou and one case each. 2 deaths (Xiamen, Putian, one case each).

Assuming these reports are accurate Fujian province has reported nearly as many cases (n=21) in the past 6 weeks as they did during the first two epidemic waves.
